Scholarships

The Australian and New Zealand Glaucoma Interest Group (ANZGIG) 2011 Conference was held at the University Of Melbourne in February.

The Gillies Lecturer was Clinical Associate Professor Ivan Goldberg (NSW) who spoke on ‘Future priorities for glaucoma’. Dr Goldberg is Vice President of the Glaucoma Australia Council.

The Keynote Lecturer was Professor Bill Morgan (WA) who spoke on ‘Translaminar pressure and its effects’.

There were no ‘ANZGIG-Glaucoma Australia’ scholarships awarded at this year’s meeting. However there was an Award of Excellence for the winner to attend an International Glaucoma Meeting.

A joint award was awarded to Dr Evelyn O’Neill and Dr George Kong for the best paper presented at the meeting by a trainee.

There were a total of 76 registrants who attended over the 2 days.

ANZGIG has awarded a prize for the best paper by an ophthalmology trainee at its annual scientific meeting for many years. In 2007 the Group introduced scholarships as well. These scholarships are to assist ophthalmology trainees to attend the annual ANZGIG scientific meeting. The scholarships are jointly funded by ANZGIG and Glaucoma Australia.

The 2012 ANZGIG Meeting will be held in February, in Sydney.

At this meeting ANZGIG and Glaucoma Australia will jointly award Scholarships to enable trainees in glaucoma from countries other than Australia and New Zealand to attend the meeting.
