MYTH: Glaucoma only affects older people
While it is true that the risk of developing glaucoma increases as we age, this eye disease can affect people of all ages, even newborns.
Age plays an important role in glaucoma, particularly in open-angle glaucoma, as throughout a lifetime there is usually a gradual rise in intra ocular pressure (IOP). Evidence strongly indicates that those over 50 should have regular ocular health checks but don’t assume that you are immune from glaucoma because of your age!
