Jen’s Bake, Raffle and Goal!
Jen’s passion to focus her fundraising efforts towards eliminating glaucoma blindness stemmed from her husband’s journey with glaucoma. Corey, aged 37 lives with only 20% of his vision in one eye due to the impacts of glaucoma. Jen is heartbroken, having seen the consequences of glaucoma first hand and knowing her husband will “never regain his eyesight to be able to see his children grow up”. Jen was afforded the opportunity to spearhead NSW Woolworths Support Office’s charity efforts for the month of April. She generously focussed her efforts to raise money for Glaucoma Australia. Jen’s aim was to encourage people to donate in the knowledge that they would contribute to immediate efforts to both support people like her husband currently living with glaucoma and to help with early detection to Beat Invisible Glaucoma in her children’s generation.
Jen put together a mega raffle, held at Woolworths Norwest, she sold tickets for and awarded a number of amazing prizes, BWS and Big W assisted her efforts. The raffle was a smashing success. These efforts not only raised funds, but also increased awareness about glaucoma and the importance of early glaucoma detection.
It doesn’t stop there – Jen simultaneously organised a “Bake for a Cure” event within her workplace. She successfully inspired other departments within her organisation and got them on board working towards our common goal of eliminating glaucoma blindness. With the work of three departments combined, their bake sale in conjunction with the mega raffle were both beneficial fundraising efforts.
Glaucoma Australia thanks Jen for her passion and her dedication to the cause. The funds raised will be directly put towards efforts such as:
· Helping people receive information packs to assist them in answering their glaucoma concerns and strategies to assist living with glaucoma
· Assisting the Glaucoma Australia telephone support free call number to answer calls for information, resource direction and support for people affected by glaucoma
· Helping to increase awareness about glaucoma within Australian communities and hone in on the need for regular optic nerve checks to diagnose glaucoma before vision is lost
· Funding new projects surrounding the awareness of glaucoma amongst families of people with glaucoma, as they are at an exponentially higher risk of having glaucoma with a family history of the disease
The funds donated to Glaucoma Australia help us all to see the BIG picture, in our lifetime.
