Don’t miss their moments
Glaucoma develops slowly and often without any symptoms. Left untreated, it can cause vision loss and may even lead to blindness.1 Visit your optometrist for a glaucoma eye check and learn more below
Glaucoma is a progressive eye disease that damages the optic nerve 1 and is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide.1
In Australia, over 300,000 people have glaucoma but only half have been diagnosed.1
Known as the silent thief of sight, glaucoma is often asymptomatic, leaving people undetected until the disease reaches an advanced stage.1
While vision loss can’t be restored, early diagnosis and treatment can delay or halt the progression of the disease. That is why it’s so important to detect the problem as early as possible.1
Permanent blindness from glaucoma is a tragedy that’s largely preventable.
The Glaucoma Aware campaign aims to encourage Australians to avoid missing out of life’s special moments and get their eyes checked for glaucoma.
