Pharmacist Resource Centre
Welcome to the Glaucoma Australia Resource Centre for Pharmacists. Here you will find professional development resources, as well as a range of patient education materials for use in your pharmacy to assist with glaucoma treatment adherence.
A major concern for patients being treated for glaucoma is continuing to take their medication. Similar to other chronic, asymptomatic conditions, medication adherence amongst glaucoma sufferers is low, with 44% of patients having stopped treatment at six months and 52% at one year. (Healey P, et al. Loss to follow-up may be reason for poor glaucoma medication adherence. Poster: World Glaucoma Congress Paris, 2011).
Glaucoma Australia works with its partners to develop professional development resources for pharmacists. Current available activities are listed below:
Glaucoma and the Pharmacist
The PSA in partnership with Glaucoma Australia is hosting a three module online learning activity to help increase glaucoma disease knowledge, enhance behaviour change understanding and provide training to assist pharmacists when conducting medication adherence discussions with patients prescribed glaucoma medication.
This activity has been accredited for 2 hours of Group 1 CPD (or 1 CPD credits) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan which can be converted to 2 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 4 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities.
